Looking Forward to Boston!
Erik Strauch Frankfurt, Germany:
My name is Erik and I am a 10th grade student at Frankfurt International School, Germany. I decided to take part in the Abbey Road college prep course in Boston, Massachusetts this upcoming summer for many reasons, the most important one of which is that I believe the course will strengthen skills that will make me a better student, improve my SAT scores and help improve my chances of getting accepted to a university which will be a great fit for me.
Last year, I took the PSAT at my school and scored fairly well. However, I feel that I could have achieved a higher score if I had had more focused time to prepare for the test. The SAT prepatory course that the Abbey Road course offers appears to be ideally designed to achieve this objective. The course will allow me to study intensely and be more focused for a defined period of time rather me trying to prepare for the SAT test during the school year. Like most high school students, between studying for my classes, after school sports and other activities and weekends spent travelling to various sports and Model United Nations competitions, at best I would only have short periods of time to focus on improving my SAT score. Spending two concentrated weeks focusing only on preparing for the SAT test should allow me to bring my score on the SAT to a whole new level through practice tests
and tutoring.
The Abbey Road college prep course will also provide me with the opportunity to visit several universities in the Boston area, which is something I would find difficult to do while living in Germany. This should help provide me with an idea of the characteristics I like and don't like in a university, which will help me when it comes time for me to apply and decide on which university I want to attend. The two week stay in the city of Boston will also provide me with the opportunity to experience Boston first-hand so I can better decide if I would eventually like to live there. However, the main reason why I decided to participate in the Abbey Road college prep course is because the course is designed to provide guidance and teach skills which will be helpful in the college application process which will also give me a chance to begin working on my college essays. This should dramatically lower the amount of stress, which I know I will be under when applying to university.
Although I am a U.S citizen I have never lived in the United States and am therefore very much looking forward to meeting and spending time with other high school students from America. I am also looking forward to experiencing the culture and atmosphere of Boston as part of the Abbey Road college prep course, which I will be able to do as part of my summer experience. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the culture in Frankfurt Germany where I currently live. I am also looking forward to experiencing what living in a college dormitory and on a college campus is actually like. This will also help make my transition to college life bit easier.
